A Message From The Athletic Director

From the fall through the spring, 2007-08 was yet another banner year for Endicott College and its athletic teams. Constantly facing some of the best regional competition available, we were able to win four conference championships, an ECAC New England title, and earn four bids to NCAA Tournaments.

Women’s soccer won its fifth-straight TCCC title before advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Women’s volleyball was also crowned conference champions for the second year in a row, as the Gulls went 26-11 overall and 9-1 in conference play. Women’s lacrosse captured its third-consecutive conference title as the Gulls went a perfect 9-0 against conference foes. The highlight of the year was the softball team’s record-breaking season, as the Gulls won their sixth-straight TCCC title, played in their first-ever regional final, and set a program record with 41 wins. Head coach Mark Veilleux was award TCCC Coach of the Year.

The men’s lacrosse team was a top-15 national program in 2008, winning 18 games en route to the ECAC New England Championship. The squad had four players named to the USILA All-America teams and also had four NEILA All-New England recipients. Head coach Sean Quirk was named the TCCC Coach of the Year. Men’s volleyball also had a decorated season with two AVCA All-Americans on its roster.

We are truly excited about the 2008-09 academic year, as we will welcome the largest freshman class in Endicott history onto campus. The athletic department will also have a few new fresh faces as we have hired Deborah Buff as our new women’s basketball coach and Meghan Fitzgerald to lead the women’s lacrosse program.

Buff comes to Endicott after spending the last six years as the head coach at RIT. Deborah brings over 25 years of coaching experience to us and we are thrilled to have her join our staff. Meghan Fitzgerald will inherit our highly successful women’s lacrosse program and will also work as an Assistant Director of Admission. Fitzgerald brings a wealth of experience in both facets of her new position, as she coached at Stonehill College and also worked with its admissions office for the last four years.

Endicott’s men’s and women’s volleyball coach Tim Byram has been appointed to the NCAA Championship Selection Committee. Byram will help develop policies and procedures governing the administration and conduct of the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship. His appointment runs through 2012.

Our athletic teams have continued to receive outstanding support both at home games, and on the road. It has been great to see the outpouring of enthusiasm from faculty & staff, families, friends, and alumni. Our student-athletes appreciate this more than you can imagine.

A big thank you goes to all our Gull Club donors this year. The Gull Club is crucial in helping student-athletes at Endicott maintain their competitive edge through critical resources available to them. To date, we have over 670 members who have raised more than $80,000 this past year in support of Endicott athletics. With your continued help, Endicott athletics will remain strong. I look forward to seeing you on campus, and thank you for your continued support of our student-athletes.

Go Gulls!
